Knock off metal detectors

Recently I have been seeing a lot of discussion on knock off metal detectors and pin pointers. Many people seem to be drawn to the cheap prices. After all they look the same, they must be similar to the same quality right? Highly unlikely although some who have purchased these knock offs claim they are as same as the original or as good. We will look into that a little later into the article. Two types of knock offs There are the products that are almost exact replicas (at least from the outward appearance) right down to the logos and…

What price publicity…???

Is XP team USA sacrificing their Honor, dignity and honesty in their quest for more sales? Before I go any further I want to state that I absolutely have no issue with XP metal detectors. Back in April of 2018 I was asked to do a podcast with a big announcement concerning XP. I learned they wanted to announce the formation of XP team USA and to be truthful I couldn’t have been more pleased. An opportunity for my All Metal Mode Podcast to be the platform where it would first be announced seemed like an honor and I was…

Magic coils review for A/T Pro

Several months back a friend of mine was looking to buy a bigger coil for his AT pro. We were talking on the phone one evening and he was looking on E-bay for coils. He come across a Magic coil. What caught his attention was the price, a 13” coil for his AT Pro for just $120.00.  I advised him to not buy it for obvious reasons. First, I had never heard of Magic coils and second, the price being so low had me concerned that they might not be made very well. The subject of our conversation changed and…

Metal detector terminology explained

I have always enjoyed learning new metal detectors and for the most part I’ve found it pretty easy. Over the years I’ve been surprised to learn many people have no desire to learn the settings. I’ve literally installed a few programs in people’s detectors for them and that’s all they ever use and they’re clueless on the settings or how their detector works.  The problem with this is you might run into certain ground conditions where it would be very beneficial to know your settings and how to change them for optimal performance. Recently, a good friend called me to…

NEW Nokta/Makro Simplex is coming!!

For some time now it seems the focus from the manufacturers has been on the mid to high range detectors. Several new detectors in those ranges have hit the market over the past few years and for good reason. The focus has really been on the mid-price range I believe due to the popularity of the Garrett At line of detectors. We’ve even seen what appears to be manufacturers known for much more expensive metal detectors scrambling to get something closer into the mid-range price. For example, Minelab with the Equinox series, Whites with the MX Sport and XP with…

Rutus Alter 71 2.0 Review

Rutus announced their new software update, 2.0 recently and I had to wonder how they could make this detector any better. I’m not going to go into much detail here on the Rutus Alter 71 since I have already done a review but there are a few quick things I want to point out before I discuss the latest version.  Every time I go out with the Alter 71 I like it more and more which is saying a lot because I fell in love with it the very first time. Arek, the owner and engineer of the Rutus has…

Predator tools Hornet and Yorktown shovels

Just before my Ohio trip, about a month ago I received the Predator tools model 45 Hornet and the 42 Yorktown. It’s pretty senseless to write about the quality concerning anything made by George Lesche at Predator tools. What you need to know is this. Each piece is made by George using certified American steel then each piece is individually heat treated properly. The end result is the best designed, toughest tools available and I’ve not even seen anything close! One thing about quality you need to know when discussing any tool is heat treating. You saw above where I…

Nokta/Makro metal detector coils

If you listen to the All Metal Mode Podcast or have read many of my articles then you know I’m a big fan of Nokta/Makro metal detectors. One of the things that I admire about the company is they listen to us, the end users. There is probably no better example of this than the amount of coils they offer to us detectorists. Over the years, with different detectors I have had mixed results with aftermarket coils. Personally I have always had good luck using the coils offered by the manufacturer of the detector while I have had some okay…
