Magic coils review for A/T Pro

Several months back a friend of mine was looking to buy a bigger coil for his AT pro. We were talking on the phone one evening and he was looking on E-bay for coils. He come across a Magic coil. What caught his attention was the price, a 13” coil for his AT Pro for just $120.00.  I advised him to not buy it for obvious reasons. First, I had never heard of Magic coils and second, the price being so low had me concerned that they might not be made very well. The subject of our conversation changed and…

Rutus Alter 71 2.0 Review

Rutus announced their new software update, 2.0 recently and I had to wonder how they could make this detector any better. I’m not going to go into much detail here on the Rutus Alter 71 since I have already done a review but there are a few quick things I want to point out before I discuss the latest version.  Every time I go out with the Alter 71 I like it more and more which is saying a lot because I fell in love with it the very first time. Arek, the owner and engineer of the Rutus has…

Predator tools Hornet and Yorktown shovels

Just before my Ohio trip, about a month ago I received the Predator tools model 45 Hornet and the 42 Yorktown. It’s pretty senseless to write about the quality concerning anything made by George Lesche at Predator tools. What you need to know is this. Each piece is made by George using certified American steel then each piece is individually heat treated properly. The end result is the best designed, toughest tools available and I’ve not even seen anything close! One thing about quality you need to know when discussing any tool is heat treating. You saw above where I…

Nokta/Makro metal detector coils

If you listen to the All Metal Mode Podcast or have read many of my articles then you know I’m a big fan of Nokta/Makro metal detectors. One of the things that I admire about the company is they listen to us, the end users. There is probably no better example of this than the amount of coils they offer to us detectorists. Over the years, with different detectors I have had mixed results with aftermarket coils. Personally I have always had good luck using the coils offered by the manufacturer of the detector while I have had some okay…

Nokta/Makro’s new Anfibio metal detector

At Detectival this year Nokta/Makro announced their new Anfibio series of detectors. It comes in multiple frequency 5,14 and 20 KHz, the Anfibio 14 and the Anfibio 19. If you have read any of my other articles I’ve done on Nokta/Makro or follow the all metal mode podcast you are fully aware that I am a huge fan of the company and their detectors. I probably talk about them too much to be honest but it’s been a lot of years since I’ve truly been excited about a metal detecting company. My opinion is they are the most innovative company…

Makro/Nokta huge announcements at Detectival

I knew Makro/Nokta was sponsoring Detectival and I was even privy to a couple of the announcements coming but I had no clue just how big it was going to be! Last year Minelab sponsored Detectival, I believe Dilek of Makro/Nokta wanted to beat last year’s performance of someone parachuting onto the field. Dilek was buried underground for 2 hours until someone “detected” her! I think she nailed it! As entertaining as that was let’s be honest, everyone wants to know why Makro/Nokta decided to sponsor the show. They must have a big announcement right? They didn’t have a…

First impression of the Makro Multi-Kruzer

I got the Makro Kruzer at the end of this past week and didn’t have a chance to get out with it which was killing me! I read through the manual every chance I got. The first thing I noticed was how well it’s written. Breaking down all the programs and settings, supplying you with all the information you need to learn the Kruzer. The next thing I started to notice was just how similar it is to the Nokta Impact. I had heard rumors that it was very similar to the Impact which made me very happy considering the…

Fisher F22 metal detector review

In the last 6 months or so Fisher and Teknetics have been coming up a lot in conversations and all of them very positive. Most of those conversations have been about detectors in the beginner price range, even ones at or below 200 dollars. Being in this hobby for over twenty years and most of those years using mid to high end detectors my mind hasn’t been on lower price range detectors but after hearing so many great things about fisher/teknetics (some sounding too good to be true) I had to try one out for myself. A few years…

Rutus Alter 71 metal detector review

Several months back I was talking to someone about metal detectors and they said something about the Rutus Alter 71. I can’t remember if I asked him or I just said it in my head but it went something like “a Rutus what? Huh? Are we still talking metal detectors?” As he started telling me how much he liked it I went out on the internet and started reading and watching whatever I could on it. Within a few days I was drooling to get my hands on one. I was reading some very promising things and had watched some…

Relic hunting with the Nokta Impact

During a recent trip to Ohio I had the opportunity to go metal detecting for a day. I was really looking forward to relic hunting some field sites. Long story short, after a few things fell through and recent rains flooding fields and making others to muddy I found myself in the same two fields I detected in the fall of 2017.  Unfortunately these were my last choice and I would have knocked on some doors of older homes but I was really excited to get the Nokta Impact in some heavy iron. I took the 11×7 and 7.5×4 inch…
