Relic hunting with the Nokta Impact

During a recent trip to Ohio I had the opportunity to go metal detecting for a day. I was really looking forward to relic hunting some field sites. Long story short, after a few things fell through and recent rains flooding fields and making others to muddy I found myself in the same two fields I detected in the fall of 2017.  Unfortunately these were my last choice and I would have knocked on some doors of older homes but I was really excited to get the Nokta Impact in some heavy iron. I took the 11×7 and 7.5×4 inch…

Tips to succeed in learning your new detector

Over the years I have been fortunate enough to use many metal detectors. From my years as a metal detector dealer and getting the opportunity to borrow different detectors for articles has given me some insight on how best to learn a new detector. On both social media and forums I often see bad questions and answers when it comes to learning a new detector and I hope this article will shed some insight and help you to learn your metal detector quicker and better. Social media/forums – I often see people with a new detector posting a very vague…

Nokta Impact metal detector review

You might want to read this article before reading this review Usually I am not so quick to do a review of a metal detector but in this case it’s all I’ve been wanting to talk about for days. Also, I have been able to spend a lot of time out metal detecting in the past few weeks, much more than usual, allowing me to feel comfortable enough to do my review. By no means am I any kind of Impact expert yet (stay tuned) but I do have a really good understanding of it. Quality Putting the Impact together…

NEW Makro Kruzer – Waterproof, Multi freq detector

Since Minelab announced the Equinox everyone has patiently been waiting for the release. Much like Garrett did earlier in 2017  the release date has been pushed back. Everyone seems to be going crazy waiting for the Equinox to finally hit the U.S. market and for good reason. Equinox is a multi- frequency detector, lightweight, lightning fast and water proof at an affordable price. While everyone’s attention is on the Equinox and getting caught up in the hype while going crazy waiting for the release, Makro quietly did something incredible. They just recently announced their new line of detectors, the…

Faked coins, relics and artifacts

About a month back I came across a Facebook group called relic-cons, arti-fakers and planters page. Intrigued, I asked to join the group. I will be the first to admit I was leery of the site. Over the years I have seen fellow detectorists accused of faking finds that I didn’t believe. One in particular that I remember well was when Minelab FBS technology was first hitting the U.S. market, people with other brands were trashing the people making great finds with their Minelabs. I have also seen over the years people newer to the hobby using an entry level…

Cold & snow keeping you from detecting?

Living somewhere that has bad winters with snow, ice and frozen ground can really be tough on us detectorists. Moving to Texas from Ohio a year and a half ago I don’t have that problem anymore but I sure do remember how hard it was on me. Throughout the years I found ways to keep myself busy in the winter by doing things that at least for me kept me from going crazy! Although these activities weren’t as fun as metal detecting itself I did find them all enjoyable and definitely helped me to pass the time and get ready…

Being brand loyal to a fault

I remember many years back when I was very new to the hobby. Back then I spent most of my time on one particular forum trying to take everything in I could and learning from everyone. Something that I will never forget that has stuck with me all these years was I quickly learned how brand loyal so many people are. That was twenty years ago and I still see it going on today. When Minelab first started to make a name for itself there were a few Explorer users in that particular forum and they would post some really…

Teknetics T2 SE detector – initial impressions

If you follow my blog you’ve possibly read my articles on the T2 Classic. When I say Classic I’m not sure that’s correct. This was one of the original T2’s and although it had some age on it I knew the whole life of the detector and in reality it had less than 20 hours of use on it. The T2 had always been stored properly without batteries and in a warm, dry place.  My reason for wanting the T2 is I was needing something here in Texas for parks. I wanted a VDI screen to quickly help let me…

First Texas lay-offs come as new facility announced

First Texas layoffs and new building A few weeks ago someone on my Facebook friends list was saying how they and several other were laid off from First Texas. For those who might not know, first Texas is made up of Fisher, Teknetics, Bounty hunter and night owl optics that I know of for sure and possibly other products.  You can’t help but feel for the people who were laid off, especially this close to Christmas but what really upset me was just a few days after hearing the news I seen a post on Teknetics Facebook page that said…

A trend in digging tools and shovels

A trend in digging tools and shovels I remember several years back when one of the metal detector manufactures came out with a new hand digger. Not long after it was on the market, one of my good customers who was very loyal to this particular brand, called me up and had to have one. I explained to him that I wouldn’t chance spending my money on something that is so brand new when Predator tools makes the best tools available. Being brand loyal he had to have one so I got one ordered and got it to him when…
