The Minelab Equinox Is Coming!

September 7, 2017 By Detectorist, Mike Haer Leave a Comment

With Minelab announcing their new metal detector September 16th at Detectival the rumors are running rampant! It is always exciting times when a manufacture announces a new metal detector! I have read so many different things and at this point the only thing I am fairly sure of is it will be called the Equinox due to a patent that Minelab applied for in November of 2016.

I doubt that any of the rumors floating around are coming from any reliable source. Yes, there are some people out there who know what it is and I’m sure field use probably began several months ago. The thing is they are under contract to not disclose any information so it is highly unlikely any information is being leaked.

When a manufacture announces a new metal detector l enjoy reading all the rumors and speculations. It gives us an opportunity to dream and hopefully the manufactures are paying attention. I don’t think there is any other time where they can really see what us the consumer wants.

I have read everything from an updated Safari with wireless headphones to a new gold metal detector! There is a lot of speculations going around about a FBS/BBS hybrid that seems to be pretty popular. I’ve also read about multiple processors in a much smaller, lighter metal detector. Again, it’s a really exciting time and I enjoy reading all the speculation.

I got a chance to talk to Minelab yesterday and when I asked if they could tell me anything about the new metal detector I got a laugh. The only thing they would tell me is it would be announced on the 16th. I had to ask (knowing I would not get an answer) “is there any truth to the rumor of a FBS/BBS hybrid.” Another chuckle and I was told “there are a lot of rumors out there and some are close while others are way off” I tried but unfortunately that was all I was going to get out of Minelab.

So have fun reading all the rumors and speculation but know that it’s just that until the 16th which is just nine days away! My prediction (really just a wish) is a FBS/BBS hybrid in a well-balanced, lighter package than what we are used to seeing from Minelab. My second favorite is a waterproof X-Terra line. Until the official announcement I will be sitting on the edge of my seat dreaming of what possibilities may be!
